About the school

Farel College — A "world school"

Farel College is a secondary school for ages 12–18, offering vmbo-tl (practical), HAVO (middle), and VWO (pre-university) tracks to around 900 students. Part of the Meerscholen group, Farel is known as a "world school" with a strong emphasis on bilingual education (Dutch + English), international perspective, and student independence.

The school culture is open, informal, and values critical thinking. Teachers are approachable, and students are encouraged to speak up and work independently — quite different from typical Polish school systems.

Host families & daily life

Polish students stay with Dutch host families for the full week—experiencing authentic Dutch culture, directness, and informality. You'll quickly notice differences: Dutch people are blunt (not rude!), very informal, bike everywhere, and enjoy practical efficiency. Embrace it—it's a key part of the exchange. Families are vetted by Farel College's exchange coordinator.
